In recent years, Australia's Kangaroos have developed a rivalry with the Kiwis in the rugby league arena, which it would seem has surpassed that with the mother land- Great Britain. With the vast improvement in the Kiwis' competitiveness during the much anticipated Trans-Tasman clashes, not to mention their new World Champion status, Australia has found that its biggest rival is less than an ocean away. What is ironic about the scenario, is that the Australian Rugby League system is nurturing the rawest talent from the Land of the Long White Cloud, and turning these young players into bonafide footy wrecking balls. With many Australian based Kiwis of island dissent boasting hulking frames, that allow them to shoot to stardom at a ripe age, it's no wonder New Zealand has begun to assert a more dominant role in the Tri-Nations Series'; quite simply, their brilliantly gifted talent pool is coming of age. With role models such as Sonny Bill Williams, Benji Marshall, and Roy Asotasi setting the trend for Kiwi flair, there's no wonder the faster game of rugby league is having more of an appeal to these youngsters over its code counterpart in rugby union. The ultimate test for New Zealand in this year's Tri-Nation Series, will be to prove that it can retain it's World Champion status, by keeping the trophy in New Zealand. With a young star-studded Kangaroo outfit and a British team desperate to prove it's position in world rugby league, the path will not be so easy to travel this time around.
