2006 Tri-Nations Kangaroo Squad

Monday afternoon, Australian Rugby League selectors revealed their revised 23 man squad for this year's Tri-Nations competition, to be fought out between the old rivals of the Great-Britain Lions, The New-Zealand Kiwis, and the Australian Kangaroos. As would be expected, the team has a heavy Queensland influence, after their State of Origin victory earlier this year, including many of the Premiership winning Bronocos who starred in the interstate series. A few surprise bolters made the cut, namely Jarryd Hayne, who earnt his spot in the squad after a two trial haul against PNG whilst playing for the Prime-Minister's XIII. Anthony Tupou and Sam Thaiday were shock selections, whilst the inlclusion of Super League based Australian, Jamie Lyon, has had a few of the game's critics scratching their heads. The squad is as follows:
Shaun Berrigan
Tonie Carroll
Petero Civoniceva
Mark Gasnier
Jarryd Hayne
Nathan Hindmarsh
Justin Hodges
Ben Hornby
Karmichael Hunt
Greg Inglis
Matt King
Brent Kite
Darren Lockyer (c)
Jamie Lyon
Willie Mason
Luke O'Donnell
Mark O'Meley
Andrew Ryan
Cameron Smith
Brent Tate
Sam Thaiday
Jonathan Thurston
Anthony Tupou
The selectors did no wrong this time around in selecting a versatile squad; this is quite possibly the best mix of youth and experience Australian fans have seen in years. Any 17 man team which coach Ricky Stuart picks from this talented pool will be more than a hand-full for its rivals. I have chosen a 17 man team which I would deem to be the best which the nation could present given the players listed in the squad, no doubt the actual team may look a bit different if certain incumbents retain their spots.
The Green Lantern's Suggested Kangaroo 17 Man Team
1 Ben Hornby
2 Brent Tate
3 Mark Gasnier
4 Justin Hodges
5 Matt King
6 Darren Lockyer
7 Jonathan Thurston
8 Mark O'Meley
9 Cameron Smith
10 Petero Civoniceva
11 Nathan Hindmarsh
12 Luke O'Donnell
13 Tonie Carroll
Interchange:
14 Willie Mason
15 Sam Thaiday
16 Shaun Berrigan
17 Greg Inglis

I like the look of your team, but my team would be slightly different.
I would have Hunt at fullback, Hodges and Tate on the wings, with Gasnier and Lyon in the centres.
But as you said, any in the 23 would get the job done.
Cheers,
