The Biff is Back!

Reg Reagan must have been skwirming in his stubbies when he saw the opening contest of the 2006 Rugby League Tri-Nations. The 'biff' is well and truly back. Being quite possibly the most anticipated series in decades, the Australian's, who found themselves for the first time in many years challengers of the title opposed to returning champions, came prepared for a bitter tug of war. The physical encounter culminated when a shove-fest between Kangaroo winger Matt King, and Kiwi winger Manu Vatuvei, spilled nearly into the crowd and instigated a brawl between both teams. The incident wasn't the only isolated physical clash. David Kidwell was able to put an enormous hit on Big Willie Mason, which could have nearly inflicted damage to the hulking props' eye socket. For his troubles, Mason was left with a blinding egg on his right eye socket. Mason has sworn revenge on the Kiwi second-rower stating that he had blind-sided him and was unprepared for the hit. Rumours circulated almost immediately after the match that Kidwell had targeted Mason following Masons' sledging of the traditional pre-game Haka; Kidwell denied the rumours. The Kangaroos and Kiwis clash again on saturday night at Telstra Dome in Melbourne. The teams remain relatively unchanged with the only changes being Anthony Tupou being brought into the Australian side for the injured Reni Maitua, and Shontayne Hape being brought in for Tame Tupou.
