A Stirring in the Force...

It seems that this year will be a big year for fans of the various Dark Horse Star Wars comic lines, namely Knights of the Old Republic, Dark Times, Rebellion and Legacy. A darkness the likes of which has never been felt before is brewing in the very depths of the galaxy, first emerging at a time four thousand years ago when the Galactic Republic was at its very height and stretching its shadowy tendrils all the way into the Legacy Era. Drawing upon the talents of John Ostrander, Jan Duursema, John Jackson Miller (Ironman), Rob Williams (Cla$$ War) and Mick Harrison (Star Wars: Dark Times) the multi era saga is known simply as ‘Vector’ and has prompted much speculation as to what may be behind it. So far apart from the team being involved with this saga the only other thing that the Green Lantern can reveal are the actual issues involved and they are: KOTOR 25 – 28, Dark Times 11 – 12, Star Wars: Rebellion 15 – 16 and finally ending with Legacy 29 – 32 at the end of 2008. This is a development I’ll be trying to keep abreast of and at the end of this year I hope to be able to bring my own particular views on it under the Lantern’s viridian gaze.
But darkness within the Star Wars universe is not the only shadowy influence that has caught the eternal emerald gaze of the Green Lantern. Other menaces are making their presences felt, from Skaro comes a menace whose form and sound should be familiar to all those across the world for over forty odd years – yes the Daleks, the ancient nemeses of Doctor Who from his very earliest days to his current incarnation. And vampires also are stirring in the depths of the night, their actions and agendas writ large in the gaze of the Lantern. These are but a few of the shadowy forces whose presence will be revealed in upcoming months on this site.
On a slightly tangential note so far I have not managed to get a gander at Gabriel, it certainly hasn’t come to the local cinema and as far as I know Sony have released it recently on DVD so I’ll be keeping an eye on the local video store and seeing if it turns up on the shelves. Another interesting recent DVD release by Sony is the anime series Blood as well as the anime movie Paprika which was released on DVD by Sony last year, two more things for me to keep an eye out for. I’m also planning on getting a hold of ‘As it is in Heaven’, a film that a good friend of mine, Mark, has been raving about at our local watering hole for some time now, so Mark if you read this I’m getting round to it and hopefully soon.
And lets not forget the next instalment in the Batman saga; the Dark Knight, which was tragically one of the last films to star the late Heath Ledger. So much is happening and the entertainment field is filled with many potentials, some dark and fearsome, others filled with light and joy. But as a wise old Jedi Master once said “Hmmm always in motion the future is, hard to see, clear your mind you must if to make sense of it you desire.” All I can say is that for the Green Lantern 2008 looks to be a bumper year for movies, anime, manga etc and I hope to be very busy and enjoying sharing my views on these various subjects with you over the coming months.
